As a Minister and Celebrant, I have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of every person I work with.

This safeguarding policy sets out my commitment to protecting children, young people, and vulnerable adults from harm, abuse, or exploitation.

My Commitment

I will:

  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect
  • Act in the best interests of those I serve
  • Remain alert to signs of harm, neglect, or abuse
  • Respond to concerns promptly and appropriately
  • Work within current safeguarding legislation and guidance relevant to my role

Scope

This policy applies to all aspects of my work, including:

  • Religious and non-religious ceremonies, including weddings, funerals, blessings, and celebrations
  • Pastoral support and guidance
  • Community gatherings and events
  • Online, telephone, and written communication

Recognising Abuse

Abuse can take many forms, including:

  • Physical abuse, causing physical harm
  • Emotional abuse, causing fear, distress, or humiliation
  • Sexual abuse, involving inappropriate contact or behaviour
  • Neglect, where basic needs are not met
  • Financial abuse, involving the exploitation or misuse of money

Responding to Concerns

If I am concerned about the safety or well-being of a child, young person, or vulnerable adult, I will:

  • Listen carefully and without judgement
  • Reassure the individual that they are being taken seriously
  • Record what has been seen or shared, using clear and factual language
  • Report the concern to the appropriate safeguarding authority, or to emergency services if there is an immediate risk

I will never promise confidentiality where someone’s safety may be at risk.

Safe Practice

To help ensure safety, I will:

  • Meet in appropriate and safe environments
  • Avoid being alone with a child or vulnerable adult wherever possible
  • Maintain clear professional boundaries at all times
  • Communicate in a respectful and appropriate way, both in person and online

I am committed to keeping my safeguarding knowledge up to date through training, guidance, and ongoing learning.
